As many know..we are our own No-kill shelter. It just happened, no plans, no funds, it's just who we are!
So, if you check out my couch potato article, you'll see many of our canine babies. Oh, and please, do not ignore our cats...they don't take kindly!
Back to Suzy.
We came home from grocery shopping two weeks ago and after getting everything put away and relaxing in the living room, our dogs started barking. Not unusual-they do not understand the concept of a fence. If they can see through it, it's fair game! But, this was different...any one that has dogs knows what I mean...
So, I got up, opened the door and looked out...and what did I see...
A gorgeous young dog (5-6 months??) standing in the middle of our four lane road!!!! I told her to go home, to get out of the road, go home, I repeated, many times. No deal...she looked at our dogs and SAT DOWN on the yellow stripe!!!!
I was so glad it was a Sunday!!!!
Hubby went around the fenceand walked to the edge of the road and spoke calmly to her (didn't know she was a she at the time!) She came over to him and then was startled...just as a car and a truck came up the hill, she ran back into the road!!!
Now, I can handle blood, heart attacks, fires and the like..but, a dog running into the road?? Oh heck NO!!! I turned my back and let go with a scream, you know, the primal type...last thing I wanted to hear was bone meeting metal!
I turned around and there was hubby with this puppy in his arms, heading my way...whew!!!
So, I'm thinking who's dog is this? Why is she sitting in the road??? Of course, our other dogs are curious...so, we let the older, calmer oness out, two at a time, to visit with this youngin'. Then our younger, friskier guys wanted to know who'd\s in their yard...gradually, we let them out to great her...heaven!!! No growling, fighting, nastiness, at all (people, take alesson!!!!).
We had to call her something-puppy doesn't work with so many! I looked at her and so many names coursed through my mind, but, Suzy popped in and wouldn't leave...Suzy took to her name as though she told me-I know she did, that's how all the critters got names!
We have checked the paper, contacted the pound/Humane Society, looked for flyers...nada. his poor young creature was ignored? Dropped off? Unloved???
Anyway, I wanted to share her story, because she is an absolute doll and beautiful, to boot!!!
Please, please, please, take care of and love your animals...they depend on you!
